Johns Sport - Semester 1 Wrap Up

Johns scores big in Semester 1 sport with grand final wins, community spirit, and strong leaderboard position, ready to chase the top in Semester 2!

Semester 1 has been a standout season for sport at John XXIII College, with strong performances across multiple codes and a vibrant sense of community. Johns currently sits second on the ANU Interhall Sport leaderboard with 352 points, closely trailing Bruce.

Highlights from the Semester:

  • Ultimate Disc: Undefeated champions, defeating Burgmann in the grand final.
  • Touch Football: Women’s team won the title; men’s team finished runner-up.
  • Volleyball: Women’s team placed third; men’s team finished fifth.
  • Lawn Bowls: Secured third place with a consistent campaign.
  • AFL 9s: Men’s team won the title; women’s team placed fifth.
  • Basketball: Men’s team made the grand final; women’s team finished seventh.
  • Badminton & Road Relay: Faced tough competition, placing eighth and seventh.

Community & Culture:

  • Return of the Corridor Cup and the iconic First Year vs Second Year Footy Game, fostering strong community spirit.
  • N Week and social sport events like 6-a-side soccer helped new residents connect and settle in.
  • Huge thanks to Lachie Creighton, whose dedication has been key to the success of the sport program.

Looking Ahead:
Semester 2 brings exciting challenges including Netball, Soccer, Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, and Inward Bound. With momentum building, Johns is well-positioned for a strong finish to the year.
