Matthew Callaghan named 2026 Infinity Medal Recipient

There was no doubt in the room.

When Matthew Callaghan’s name was announced as the recipient of the 2026 Infinity Medal, the response was immediate — a standing ovation for a student whose contribution to John XXIII College has been felt across so many parts of College life.

The Infinity Medal, sponsored by the White family, recognises a student nominated by their peers for their demonstrated and lasting impact on College life, purpose-driven contribution, and embodiment of College values.

This year, that recognition belongs to Matthew.

As the current College Secretary, Matt has played an outstanding role in the life of the College. A committed leader, exceptional organiser and generous contributor, he has consistently put his time and energy into strengthening the community around him.

The Infinity Medal is particularly meaningful because it comes from the people who live alongside its recipients. It recognises not simply what a student has achieved, but the difference they have made to the people and community around them.

That spirit was reflected in the warmth of the occasion, made even more special by the presence of Casey and Carmen White, who attended to present the award on behalf of the White family.

Casey reflected on his own time at John XXIII College and the significant role the College played in his life. He spoke of the family’s pride in continuing its association with John XXIII College and its connection to what the Infinity Medal represents — recognising students whose contribution leaves a lasting mark on the College community.

For Matt, the standing ovation was a fitting reflection of the respect and affection he has earned from his peers.

His leadership has been purposeful and community-minded. Whether organising, representing, supporting or simply stepping forward when something needed to be done, Matt has embraced the opportunity to contribute to College life and help those around him.

The Infinity Medal celebrates exactly that kind of contribution.

It is a recognition of a student who has not only been part of the College story, but has helped shape it.
