John XXIII College warmly congratulates our Board member, Emeritus Professor John Carver, on recently being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in recognition of his outstanding service to science in the fields of chemistry and biochemistry.
Professor Carver’s distinguished career has spanned more than four decades of research, teaching, and leadership across some of Australia’s and the world’s leading institutions.
After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Adelaide, John undertook a PhD at ANU focused on the structure of haem proteins. His career has since taken him from Oxford University, where he pioneered the use of two-dimensional NMR techniques, to the University of Wollongong, the University of Adelaide, and back to the ANU where he served as Director of the Research School of Chemistry from 2013 to 2019.
More information on John's extensive career can be found here (page 41). His collaborations, publications (over 200 articles), and supervision of nearly 70 Honours, Masters and PhD students have left a profound impact on the scientific community.
Beyond his research, John has been a leader in academic administration, serving in senior faculty and research management roles nationally and internationally. His contributions have been recognised through multiple fellowships and awards, including the Royal Australian Chemical Institute Distinguished Fellowship.
We are deeply proud to have John serving on the John XXIII College Board, where he continues to share his expertise, wisdom, and passion for education and discovery. His OAM is a well-deserved recognition of a lifetime of dedication and achievement.
Congratulations, Professor Carver, on this remarkable honour.
