Rural and regional students looking to study in Canberra will now have greater access to accommodation support, thanks to a new partnership between Country Education Foundation of Australia (CEF) and John XXIII College.
From 2026, the John XXIII College-CEF Scholarship will offer two CEF supported students a 50% accommodation scholarship, easing the financial burden of relocating for university and ensuring they have a secure and supportive place to live.
United by a shared commitment to empowering young people through education, CEF and John XXIII College believe that every student should have the opportunity to reach their full potential— regardless of their home postcode. This partnership ensures that more rural and regional students can access quality accommodation, financial support, and a welcoming college community as they navigate university life.
John XXIII College Head of College, Jas Lincoln, said the partnership strengthens the College’s long-standing commitment to students from rural and regional areas.
“John XXIII College has always been a home away from home for students from across Australia. By working with CEF, we can ensure that more young people from the country feel supported, connected, and able to focus on their studies without the stress of financial hardship.”
CEF CEO, Wendy Mason, said providing regional students with safe and welcoming accommodation is essential in helping them succeed at university.
“Living away from home is one of the biggest challenges for our students. This partnership with John XXIII College is about more than just financial support—it’s about ensuring students feel part of a community where they can thrive.”
To be eligible for one of the inaugural scholarships, students will need to apply and receive a CEF local grant for the 2026 Academic Year and have accepted a place at John XXIII College. Applications for the 2026 academic year open in July 2025.
Students who are interested in living at John XXIII College in 2026 are encouraged to book a tour to see what the John’s community has to offer.
