The surrounds of John XXIII College echoed with excitement and anticipation as the College welcomed its newest cohort at the annual Matriculation Dinner 2025. This time-honoured tradition marks the official induction of new students into the John XXIII College community, a place where lifelong friendships are forged, academic aspirations are nurtured, and personal growth is celebrated.
Dressed in formal attire and academic gowns, students, staff, and distinguished guests gathered in the dining hall, which was elegantly decorated for the occasion. The evening commenced with a warm welcome from the College Head Jas Lincoln, who spoke of the values and traditions that define John XXIII College and the unique journey that each student is about to embark upon.
The dinner itself was a feast to remember, with the College’s catering team preparing a menu that showcased both culinary excellence and tradition. As students enjoyed their meals, they engaged in lively conversations with their new peers, resident advisors, and members of the College leadership team.
The evening was further enriched by an inspiring keynote address from Emily Weston (2009-2011) who shared stories of her time at the College and how her experiences shaped her future. This speech served as a reminder to students that their journey at John XXIII College is not just about academics but about seizing opportunities, embracing challenges, and making the most of every moment.
As the evening drew to a close, the College President Hugo Bennett took the stage to share words of encouragement, inviting the new students to immerse themselves fully in the vibrant college life, from academic pursuits to sporting competitions, community service, and social events.
The Matriculation Dinner 2025 was a fitting introduction to the year ahead, setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable chapter in the lives of the new residents. As they embark on this journey, they do so with the knowledge that they are now part of a community that will support, challenge, and inspire them every step of the way.
